Orf In Africa - Last Week at Orphanage

Last week at the Linda school and orphanage so down to the business end....... The kids have shown some real progress with rugby - Actually passing backwards now!

Passing greatly improved!

Scrums still very dodgy!

Busy putting all the donated funds to good work, steadily building up food stocks and seed for next season. Quite a bit of market work to be done tomorrow - more millie meal, beans, kapenta and oil.

Stan and Sonny helping stack the millie meal

The charcoal store needed to cook the Nshima
When I can, I try to buy from the local markets. My favourite vendor is Ivy - a real character and supplier of tomatoes, charcoal and othe bits and pieces. This load of charcoal came from her and absolutely made her day!

The crops we planted a few weeks ago are coming along very well. They rely heavily on the rain because it's just too hard to lug the water from the bore to the garden in buckets. The rain is consistent this time of year so we are having good success.

Maize growing really well

Pumpkin coming along nicely

I have had help from a pommie bloke, Hector. He has been my wing man for the last few days and the kids have taken to him.

Hector and the boys blowing up the balls that finally arrived.

Throwing a Christmas Party for the kids on Friday...my last day. Everybody is wetting their pants with excitement. They just don't get special things like that. It should be a blast!

Stay Tuned
